Metro
settles lawsuit
1/22/08
Metro, the Cross County Collaborative (CCC), and its four member
companies, today announced that all parties have reached a settlement
of the lawsuit between the Collaborative and the regional transit
agency.
Bob Baer, interim President and CEO of Metro said, "This agreement
represents a strong commitment by both sides to put the past behind
us and to continue the process of moving the community forward." Baer
added, "Challenges associated with the closure of I-64 and the effort
to ensure the financial future of public transit for this region demands
that we put our full attention to looking forward. We feel fortunate
that over the last few weeks we have been able to find common ground
between Metro and the companies of the CCC."
Both sides have concluded that settlement of the suit is in the best
interest of the parties and the taxpayers. The four companies of the
CCC - PB, STV, Jacobs and Kwame - are well-known national and international
firms with good reputations in the industry, are ethical, and will
remain eligible to compete for future Metro projects.
Baer added, "With this dispute behind us, Metro will refocus its
efforts on the agency's main responsibility: fulfilling its mission
to deliver quality transit service to the citizens of the St. Louis
region."
As part of the agreement, Metro announced that it would accept and
honor the decision of the jury, will not seek to appeal the judgment
of $2.56 million, and will settle all of CCC's claims for a total
payment of $6.0 million.
