Metrolink Expansion

Metrolink Corridors

Status of Planning & Implementation
The idea of MetroLink, the light rail system in St. Louis, has been around for more than 20 years in the region. Many people have questioned whether there is a plan or if there ever has been a plan for MetroLink. Yes, there are definite plans and priorities that have been laid out for the region since 1989.

These priorities are determined by a Systems Analysis for a region which is required by the federal government. The East-West Gateway Council of Governments conducted a Systems Analysis in 1989 in the St. Louis region and determined that there were three tiers of priorities for MetroLink expansion for the region - Tier I - Cross County, St. Charles and St. Clair County, IL; Tier II - West, North and South; Tier III - Southwest, Northeast, IL and Madison, IL. Below is a breakdown of where each corridor stands.
