METROLINK CORRIDORS
Status of Planning & Implementation
The
idea of MetroLink, the light rail system in St. Louis, has been
around for more than 20 years in the region. Many people have questioned
whether there is a plan or if there ever has been a plan for MetroLink.
Yes, there are definite plans and priorities that have been laid
out for the region since 1989.
These
priorities are determined by a Systems Analysis for a region which
is required by the federal government. The East-West Gateway Council
of Governments conducted a Systems Analysis in 1989 in the St. Louis
region and determined that there were three tiers of priorities
for MetroLink expansion for the region - Tier I - Cross County,
St. Charles and St. Clair County, IL; Tier II - West, North and
South; Tier III - Southwest, Northeast, IL and Madison, IL. Below
is a breakdown of where each corridor stands.

How
Can I Help?
We
must continue to let the legislature know that Missouri money is
needed to keep current service including Amtrak and expand public
transit in St. Louis and Kansas City.
We urge you
to write your legislators
(state and local) about the importance of state funding for public
transportation in Missouri. Look for upcoming legislative agenda.
If you do
not know who your legislators are,
find out here.
