Make
a special gift to the Loop Trolley today!
This
year, CMT worked diligently to unveil two historic trolley cars
which have been restored for use on the future Loop Trolley line.
St. Louis is a city built on trolley lines, and it is CMT's goal
to ensure that St. Louis will once again experience the benefits
of a fully-expanded transit system including economic development,
accessibility and improved quality of life.
On December 5, 2005 CMT members and friends celebrated
history in the making as Mayor Francis Slay and County Executive
Charlie Dooley cut the ribbon on the Loop Trolley at the Missouri
History Museum, marking the official rebirth of the trolleys back
to St. Louis. Photo

It is the
dream of countless St. Louisans to return streetcar service to points
throughout the region. This first line would run from here at the
Missouri Historical Society, north on DeBaliviere to Delmar and
west on Delmar to the Lions gate where the cars would turn around
and return to here by the same route. The streetcars would serve
two MetroLink stations, that would connect residents and tourists
from other parts in the region to the streetcar line and thus the
attractions of Forest Park and the arts, entertainment and retail
district called The Loop. It would be a great addition to both the
City of St. Louis and St. Louis County.
What
are the next steps? First the project has been authorized by Congress
in the recent Transportation bill meaning it is eligible to receive
federal funding. The Loop Trolley Company in cooperation with congressional
delegation is pursuing that option.
Funding
is needed first to do engineering and later to begin the actual
construction. The feasibility study estimated the cost for engineering
and construction to be about $32 million. But an important component
to the federal assistance will be the support the citizens of St.
Louis give to this project.
There
are several ways St. Louisans can help to move this project forward.
Individuals can contribute both financially and through expressing
their support to our elected officials about moving forward with
this project. Checks in support of the Loop Trolley project can
be made out to Citizens for Modern Transit with "trolley" in the
memo line or you can make a donation below.
