PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

Is there a way to travel cheap, fast and easy?

Here's how! MetroLink and the MetroBus system in St. Louis are fast, cost effective and give you a stress free commute. Whether you're going to work, shopping, or on errands, here are a few tips to help you with your ride:

  • If you have never ridden transit, visit the Metro website for their online Trip Finder or to get started call 231-2345 in Missouri or call 271-2345 in Illinois for the Metro Customer Service Line.
  • Next, where do you stand? Look for the closest MetroBus stop sign or ask the Metro representative when you call where to stand. Remember to show up a few minutes before your bus is to arrrive.
  • Before getting on the bus, always make sure to check the sign at the front of the bus. The sign tells you the route number and name i.e. #97 Delmar, #73 Carondelet, etc. The route number will match the number on the schedule.
  • As you get on the bus, drop your money or ticket in the fare box. It is $1.65 for adults. Always tell the driver before you pay if you qualify for a reduced fare for age or disability. If you pay your fare in cash and you need to travel on more than one bus or the train as well, ask the driver for a transfer when you put your money in the farebox. A MetroBus fare with multi-use transfer is $2.00.

  • When purchasing your tickets for the MetroLink, make sure to select your ticket before placing cash in the ticket vending machine. There are several ticket vending machines located at each MetroLink station. Make sure that your ticket is validated before entering the train. There are red validator machines located on each platform. A MetroLink ticket is $1.75. If you need to transfer to a bus, you will want to purchase the Metro Two-Hour Pass which is $2.00. This will allow youto ride unlimited for two hours on the Metro system. .
  • Transit passes may be used on both the MetroBus and MetroLink. Have your pass on hand on the MetroLink in case of fare inspection. When boarding the MetroBus, swipe the transit pass through the fare box. If you are using a transit pass, your transfers are built right in and do not require any more money.
  • Transit passes are available at the MetroRide Store in St. Louis Centre, area Schnuck's stores and the Metrot Agency and on the Citizens for Modern Transit website. Monthly passes are $55, weekly passes are $17 and 10 ride booklets are $17.50.
  • Once boarded, take your seat and watch for your stop. If you are traveling with children, make sure they remain seated during your trip. Remember that smoking, radios without ear phones, eating and drinking are prohibited on both the MetroLink and the buses.
  • On the MetroLink, the driver will announce the stations as the train arrives. Depart the train at your desired stop.
  • When you are ready to get off the bus, pull the cord above the window or signal the driver. You should signal the driver about a block before your desired stop. The bus will stop at the next stop. You may depart either the front or rear door.
